It’s another TogetherTuesday at Abdul Latif Jameel!

Today, we meet Özlem Çakal, Receptionist at ALJ Finansman A.Ş. in Turkey.

Özlem has been using her extra time at home to trial and perfect a new art technique: marbling, where the artist uses the mobility of the water and suspended ink pigments to create free-form shapes and patterns.

Speaking about her new craft, Özlem says:

“I’ve always had a keen belief in the soothing power of art – and in creating something capable of externally releasing and expressing your innermost thoughts and feelings.

During this time of distance, I have leaned upon the calmness of the marbling technique, the flow of the water and the quiet mindset and patience it takes to create a beautiful final design.

Sharing my artwork amongst my colleagues and friends, and encouring their own creativity, has shown me that not only does art have the power to calm – but also the power to connect!”
