i)         Configuring Outlook Express:

 

From the Desktop run Outlook Express (OE). For the first time when OE is run, it will ask the following question:

 

 

 

Once clicked, “Yes”, you will be prompted with some more screens to answer as per the following:

 1)     On “Internet Connection Wizard -> Your Name” screen, enter your Display Name as your Name in Exchange Mailbox (e.g. Arif Ismail Bijle) and click on Next.

2)     On “Internet Connection Wizard -> Internet Email Address” screen, enter your Email address as Userid@alj.com (e.g. bijleai@alj.com ) and click “Next”

 3)     On “Internet Connection Wizard -> E-mail Server  Names” screen, under:

Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server: enter pop3.alj.com

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: enter smtp.alj.com

4)     On “Internet Connection Wizard -> Internet Mail Logon”, enter the following:

a) Account name: userid                           (e.g. bijleai)

b) Remove check mark from “Remember password”

Click on “Next” and on next screen click “Finish”.

 5)     On “Outlook Express Import -> Import    Messages and Address Book”, click on

                        “Do not import at this time”

 Click “Next” and then click on “Finish”.

 

6)     Once Outlook Express is running, go to “Tools -> Accounts”.

7)     On “Internet Accounts” screen, click “Mail” and then select “pop3.alj.com” from “Account” list and click “Properties”

8)      On “pop3.alj.com properties”, under “Mail Account” change “pop3.alj.com” to “ALJ POP3” and click on “Servers”.

9)     On “ALJ POP3 properties -> Servers” screen, click on “My server requires authentication” and then click on “Advanced”.

10) On “ALJ POP3 properties -> Advanced” screen, under “Delivery”, click check mark beside “Leave a copy of messages on server”.

 

Click on “OK” to close “ALJ POP3” properties and then click on “Close” to close “Internet Accounts” window.

 


ii)       Configuring Outlook 2000:

 

1)     Access the Properties for MS Outlook through Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mail or Mail & Fax applet.

2)     From General Tab, select your profile from the list of “The following profiles are set up on this computer” and click on “Properties”.

3)     Under “Profile Properties” screen, click on “Add”

4)     Under “Add service to profile” window, select “Internet Email” from “Available information services” list and click “OK”.

      5)     On “Mail Account Properties” “General”                     screen, do the following:

i)        Under “Mail Account” type “ALJ POP3”.

ii)      Under “User Information/Name” type, your name in Exchange Mailbox (e.g. Arif Ismail Bijle).

iii)     Under “User Information/E-mail address” type your email address as userid@alj.com (e.g. bijleai@alj.com) 

Leave the other fields as blanks.

 

 

  6)  On “ALJ POP3 Properties”, click on “Servers” tab, do the following:

i)       Under “Server Information/Incoming mail (POP)”, enter: pop3.alj.com

ii)      Under “Server Information/Outgoing mail (SMTP)”, enter: smtp.alj.com

iii)     Under “Incoming Mail Server/Account name:” enter your Userid (e.g. bijleai) and remove the check mark on “Remember password”*.

iv)    Under “Outgoing Mail Server”, check mark on “My server requires authentication”.

 

 

*Note: By removing check mark on “Remember password”, your password will not be cached and is required due to security reasons while working at Public places. Hence you will be provided to enter your password each time your client will be connecting to the server. If you are using your owned computer, uncheck “Remember password” and enter your correct password so that you won’t be asked to enter the password again and again.

7)     On “ALJ POP3 Properties”, click on “Advanced” tab and under “Delivery” check mark “Leave a copy of messages on server”

 

 

Click “OK” under “ALJ POP3 Properties” screen, which will close the configuration screen and then close the Control Panel. Now your PC has been configured for using POP3 emails.
